The Other Side of Heaven Review

This is an old school type of evangelization family films of a missionary trip in the South Pacific island nations. It is based on a true story based, and finally placed in the middle of the 20th Century. Yes, as stated in other reviews Anne Hathaway in the film is only about 10 minutes or so. This is not a big-budget film, but the production seems even this, what is done. I think it's good for families and people who like this kind of drama. I do not think there is somethingfound offensive, nearly every spectator of the film. My wife and I enjoyed my ten year old son thought it was boring. Would probably be better for young people, I suppose, as seems to be lost, the themes of romance and sacrifice of my son (will) more action. The main character in this film seems to be a Mormon missionary in part of Mormon is to the point where I really think that the character may be interchangeable missionary was playing on any faith. So ifAre anti-Mormons, I think it's a real problem. Of course, a common complaint about LDS (Mormon) Church, which seem to be like all other Christian denominations, when in reality they resemble a cult. But knowing that is in progress, the film is not really too much of Mormon theology or doctrine or not, but the praise common values such as loyalty, perseverance, chastity, self-sacrifice, etc. I am not a Mormon and I liked the 'filmand I think people of other faiths or no faith, are not being well.

The Other Side of Heaven Overview

Walt Disney Home Entertainment presents THE OTHER SIDE OF HEAVEN, a thrilling and epic adventure starring Anne Hathaway (THE PRINCESS DIARIES) and Christopher Gorham (TV’s FELICITY). When 19-year-old John Groberg (Gorham) is sent on a three-year mission to Tonga, he has no idea what he’s getting into. Just getting to Tonga is fraught with danger and unbelievable obstacles. Once there, he finds himself in the midst of a culture as remote to him as the island is to his Idaho Falls home. Not understanding the language, and lonely for his fiancee Jean (Hathaway), John faces suspicion, distrust, typhoons, tidal waves, mosquitoes, and other perils of man and nature as he reaches out to the people of Tonga. Filled with adventure, breathtaking scenery, and humor, THE OTHER SIDE OF HEAVEN is a coming-of-age film your whole family will enjoy.

The Other Side of Heaven Specifications

A half-century after the real John Groberg left Idaho to serve a three-year mission in Tonga, actor Christopher Gorham (A Life Less Ordinary) gracefully slips into the Mormon Elder’s shoes in The Other Side of Heaven. A gifted cross between Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise, Gorham effortlessly carries this touching story of a young man’s struggle to adapt and thrive in a completely foreign land. He may look like a bar of soap, standing in his suit and tie against the lush palms and shimmering waters of his new surroundings; but as daily island living hits Groberg with death, disease, and natural disaster, this missionary’s determination and courage shine through. Heartfelt letters Gorham writes to his true love (sweetly portrayed by Anne Hathaway) and her candid replies underscore profound–or profoundly normal–events and impressions the two experience while apart. It’s an uplifting, tear-invoking family drama that benefits even more from fine acting, artful direction, and an Academy Award-winning producer (Gerald R. Molen, Schindler’s List). We Own the Night Review

Brooklyn, 1988. Crime is widespread, especially drugs and violence. A rogue Russian builds his heroin trade, while everyone laughs for the police. Brothers have chosen different paths: Joe has followed his father Bert Finest in New York, is a rising star. Bobby has used her mother's maiden name, name, manages a club. Bobby is also on the rise: he has developed a new girlfriend and a green light to a club in Manhattan. Joe and Bert ask him to help with the collection of information, which sinks. Then, JoeRaids Bobby's club to arrest the Russian. From there, things are out of control: Russia eliminates a hit on Joe, personal losses Monte, Bobby and loyalty to the test. This film creates a handful of scenes telling a story that has real weight and depth. Phoenix, Wahlberg, Duvall and Mendes are all excellent. Eva Mendes is also great, as I have ever seen in a role like this before.

We Own the Night Overview

What if your own family stood in the way of everything you worked for? Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) has forsaken his name to escape his family and their tradition in law enforcement to pursue his ambitions as a Brooklyn nightclub owner. As he turns a blind eye to the drug dealers around him, he comes face to face with the family he abandoned when his brother (Mark Wahlberg) and father (Robert Duvall) crack down on the club. Now Bobby must choose a side. Is he going to turn informant or will he help run the biggest crime ring in New York history?

We Own the Night Specifications

In We Own the Night, Joaquin Phoenix, whose eyes burn with sullen anger even when he’s looking at the woman he loves, plays Bobby Green, a nightclub manager in the 1980s who gets caught between his blood family he tried to leave behind–a long line of police officers–and his chosen family of friends and business partners, who turn out to be drug dealers. His father (Robert Duvall) and brother (Mark Wahlberg) want Bobby to help their investigation, but Bobby resists–until the conflict takes a brutal turn. Writer/director James Gray wears his influences on his sleeve; he’s clearly seen every movie that Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola ever made and aspires to follow in their footsteps. The familiarity of the movie’s territory dilutes its impact, but the plot of We Own the Night remains unpredictable, the performances have a clean vitality, and Gray’s moody visual style brings some life to the genre. Phoenix (Walk the Line) dives into his role, sifting through layers of guilt and familial resentment; Wahlberg and Duvall play parts they’ve essentially played a dozen times, but do so with commitment and integrity. Also featuring Eva Mendes (Ghost Rider) as Bobby’s devoted girlfriend, who questions just how much she’ll have to give up for him. –Bret Fetzer

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (Widescreen Edition) Review

Set after the first 100 episodes of the show area, I felt that this film is a nice add-on could be set up, and while it is sweet and has a good story you have in years, the film shows that others do, animated simply felt like a half-hour episode that really take care of something new or really exciting to see. The only new thing you see in the movie is when Spongebob is anger at Mr. Crabs to pass him on the promotion and King NeptuneMr.Crabs about his alleged theft of the crown of King Neptune, SpongeBob are less than stellar defense of Mr. Krabs Sponebob personality and his faithful friend Patrick go on a trip to the Crown to secure and find the real perpetrators of the robbery. The film is obviously meant to entertain children and fans of the show, so if you still want a child and not a fan, probably because this film does not hold a lot of fun for you more likely to pass. The animation is nearso far this season so that the video and audio are both very good and some extras are decent, but all in all, the film has actually been seen only by fans of the series or children, so again, if you are not, what should pass only the movie and try something different to your taste …

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (Widescreen Edition) Specifications

How many movies offer the rare spectacle of a parasailing pink starfish flying over a crowd with a congratulatory pennant clenched between his buttcheeks? And that’s only the tip of the iceberg–The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is a freewheeling goof of a cartoon, full of surreal twists as its diminutive heroes head down a dangerous road to rescue the lost crown of King Neptune. SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny), an arrested adolescent in the mold of Pee-wee Herman, works at a fast-food restaurant that serves something called Krabby Patties (as the restaurant owner is himself a crab, it’s not clear what exactly they’re made of). His best friend Patrick Starfish (Bill Fagerbakke) lives under a rock and has an IQ in the lower digits. Still, their friendship carries them through many a tight spot as they strive for manliness. Anyone seeking a coherent world will be disappointed; in this undersea adventure, things catch on fire or seem to be surrounded by air whenever it’s convenient for a gag. The jokes are often more silly than actually funny, but there’s an undeniably energetic joviality to the proceedings. Featuring the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, Alec Baldwin, and a fully fleshed appearance by David Hasselhoff. –Bret Fetzer

The Muppet Movie - Kermit’s 50th Anniversary Edition Review

This great film paints a picture of Hollywood as a place of great wonder and magic, a place where the Muppets are. I wonder if all the movies today could do the same thing. He could do as a place of Hollywood whose purpose is the happiness to millions of people? If they had the cream of the crop in each guest stars cameo role as a man of ice, a waiter, when nobody ego gets in the way and deflect attention from Kermit and the gang? I have my doubts. This mayone of the last great Hollywood movie, with great comedy and great songs (except for one song that I'm not crazy).

Kermit is one of the greatest characters ever. In my opinion, you run in circles around Mickey Mouse. He is always humble, modest, and is trying to do what is right, but not encountering any kind of nonsense. He knows when to act. And he knows how to deal with children and adults, without patronizing either. This film is really a tribute toits dimensions.

This film only flaw is that sometimes it is extremely cheesy. But you know, what can you expect from a puppet? It's a wonder there are so extraordinarily skillful in dealing with the writing of wonderful. I think my favorite line is when Fozzy said: "I do not know how to thank you," Kermit, and adds: "I do not know why thanks to you." Hilarious. And it's a cool ghost town scene in the movie too, I had expected.

I do not know if I like theMost of the Muppet Movie Muppets at Disney World, but man, is really good.

The Muppet Movie - Kermit’s 50th Anniversary Edition Overview

They’re irreverent, irrepressible, and downright irresistible. They’re the Muppets! — starring in their first full-length movie. See how their meteoric rise to fame and fortune began: with a rainbow, a song . . . and a Frog. After a fateful meeting with a big-time talent agent, Kermit the Frog heads for Hollywood dreaming of showbiz. Along the way, Fozzie Bear, the Great Gonzo, and the dazzling Miss Piggy join him in hopes of becoming film stars too. But all bets are off when Kermit falls into the clutches of Doc Hopper (Charles Durning), a fast-food mogul seeking to promote his French-fried frog-leg franchise! Featuring Oscar(R)-nominated music (1980, Best Original Song “The Rainbow Connection,” Best Original Score) and side-splitting appearances by some of the biggest names on the silver screen — including Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Orson Welles, and more! –-this fully restored and remastered 50th Anniversary Edition of THE MUPPET MOVIE is a critically acclaimed comedy classic your family will treasure for all time. The Muppet Movie - Kermit’s 50th Anniversary Edition Specifications

This simply irresistible first feature from the Muppets has Kermit the frog going from the swamps to Hollywood to be a star. As he travels and picks up his usual friends (Miss Piggy, Fozzie the Bear), Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) is in pursuit, looking for Kermit to be the spokesman for his frog-leg cuisine. A loose rendition of The Wizard of Oz, the film incorporates the same cagey humor as their breakout syndicated TV series The Muppet Show. This is one of the few times that a human cast (notably Steve Martin, Orson Welles, and Carol Kane) are integrated seamlessly with nonhumans. Worth noting is Paul Williams’s score, which includes the Oscar-nominated “The Rainbow Connection.” Williams’s music, much like Howard Ashman’s work on The Little Mermaid and other Disney films, provides more than atmosphere; there’s a degree of magic here. Williams did not work on the future Muppet films until A Muppet Christmas Carol. His contributions made these films the best of the Muppet series. –Doug Thomas

Carmen Review

Carmen Paz Vega creates the steamiest ever in this splendid period drama. It brings the character to life. This is not Bizet's "Carmen", though. This includes the impulsive and fiery temperament to extremes, and combine these interact with an explosive mix of personalities, with others, seems only to manipulate it. Then call, first with sensuality, as you and reward, carries the same for men, not only to poor Jose.

The settings for the life almost as much as the characters - thatcavernous cigar factory at the beginning, the city of the nineteenth century in Spain (but much older), and the rocks, first dominated by desert bandits. Award-winning costumes for help, including military uniforms, colorful and elaborate recreations of clothing for women to humiliate themselves on details like drawers.

Do not expect these characters as. José military honors implode, so that a shell of murderous jealousy. Carmen herself - and kissed a snake seems more secure. Not even the promise of her lush bodydoes that seem a good deal. Nice people do not make good drama, and these are very dramatic. Recommended, but not for the timid skin.

Three Little Words Review

And Keenan Wynn, too:)
This is a great little film … one of my personal favorites because I love the charm of infant Red Skelton in his love, and I think that Vera Ellen is the perfect partner for Fred Astaire dance better (with Rita Heyworth second, third, Elenore Powell, Ginger … and Leslie Caron in Daddy Long Legs - another great favorite … all beat Ginger). The three stars are - in absolute relax and enjoy top form - with the best music and a fascinating history andScript. This is a quality piece of work.
The dance of "Thinking of You" is one of the nicest couples ever. Most of the dancers have focused musicals seem a bit 'unstable, and drag in places, but keeps you entertained the whole time. Red as saying (in Ziegfeld Follies), is "Smooooth." Part of what keeps your interest is that it is basically the story, fun and real people and their careers. This is a movie with happy memories of the melodies and let theCharacters and numbers dance. Enjoy it!

Three Little Words Overview

Bio-pic of songwriters Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby.

Three Little Words Specifications

Three Little Words (1950) was an example of Hollywood’s late-’40s/early-’50s interest in the lives of famous songwriters. Fred Astaire plays vaudeville dancer Bert Kalmar, whose act with Jessie Brown (Vera-Ellen) runs aground due to his interest in magic acts and a backstage accident. While in rehab, he meets composer Harry Ruby (Red Skelton), and the two discover a knack for writing Tin Pan Alley songs, then Broadway shows, together. There’s some mild conflict in their lives as portrayed in film, but mostly the movie is an excuse to pull out a slew of Kalmar & Ruby songs such as “Who’s Sorry Now,” “My Sunny Tennessee,” “Nevertheless,” “I Wanna Be Loved by You,” and the title tune. Vera-Ellen is an excellent partner for Astaire, and the relatively restrained Skelton puts in a good performance. Also appearing are Arlene Dahl as a musical actress, Gloria De Haven as her own mother, a young Debbie Reynolds as Boop-a-Doop girl Helen Kane, and the real Harry Ruby as a baseball player playing catch with Skelton, the movie Harry Ruby. Three Little Words isn’t one of the great MGM musicals of its era, but it’s an entertaining picture, especially for fans of Astaire. –David Horiuchi

The Mountain Men Review

One of the lesser-known credits for films of Charlton Heston, but a great pick for those who enjoy a film for the 1800 the fur trade. Brian Keith steals the show in a great performance, like the Sidekick Heston as the beaver and the fight against the Indians in the Grand Teton. My only complaint is that this DVD should have, was published in a widescreen format, as the original VHS version.

Shorts Review

I bought this for my nephew for Christmas and we saw last night. I must say that I was really impressed with this film. Most children's movies are super cheese, but this was really funny! It has humor for adults as much as the films of some children, it was all fun adventure child. :)

Shorts Overview

A group of neighborhood kids discover a special rock that allows any wish to come true. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 11/24/2009 Run time: 120 minutes Rating: Pg

Shorts Specifications

A fantastical story, relayed in the form of short vignettes by director Robert Rodriguez, Shorts is the story of a magic wishing rock and kids’ imaginations gone wild. The film plays a lot like the The Little Rascals (Our Gang) films from the 1920’s-1940’s: it’s made up of short, comical episodes that focus on kids adventures and how imagination drives their play. When a magical rainbow rock falls from the sky and lands in the middle of tech-town Black Falls, a young boy Toe (Jimmy Bennett) discovers that the rock has the power to grant his every wish. The victim of constant bullying, Toe wishes for friends as unusual as himself and ends up with a posse of aliens who protect him while seriously complicating his life. As narrator, Toby quickly stops the film, explaining that his experience is really the middle of the story, and then rewinds repeatedly to relate various encounters between neighborhood kids and the magic rock. Each short is its own journey into a kid’s imagination where wishes for everything from a treasure hunt, to a fortress guarded by crocodiles, a super smart baby with telepathic powers, and a booger monster grown from one boy’s booger are immediately granted. These fantastical wishes wreak havoc on the entire Black Falls community: the children, the technology obsessed, disconnected Black Box employees, and the tyrannical Black Box boss Mr. Black (James Spader). In the end, the magic rock is a catalyst for change, encouraging kids and adults to work together and inspiring serious reflection regarding one’s wishes, dreams, and goals. Rodriguez does a great job of portraying the wildness of kids’ imaginations and viewers that delight in over-the-top ridiculousness and the overtly gross will laugh hysterically throughout the film. Unfortunately, those who demand restraint may find it overdone. (Ages 10 and older) –Tami Horiuchi

Smoke Signals Review

I am a bit 'from the few negative reviews that this film has gathered here on Amazon, confused. To calm an expert in mind: Even if I would consider myself a liberal, I have not hesitated to give each work of art a bad rating when it deserved.

Since many visitors their cases much more eloquent than I said I could leave only this to say: I believe that this is a fascinating, eccentric, well acted, provocative film. Its slow perfectly reflects the feeling that it is stillNot a shot-'em-up, mind-numbing exercise in "entertainment", but a careful study, a work of art unique, a reflection of life. Perhaps because there different textures and rhythm, it seems quite strange and disturbing.

Shakespeare, as stated, are (and) to enhance its attractions, games and films have one aim: "as" Tver hold the mirror of nature: to show virtue her feature, scorn her image and the age and body of the time his form and pressure. "I think SMOKESIGNALS is pretty good!

Smoke Signals Overview

Critically acclaimed as one of the best films of the year, SMOKE SIGNALS was also a distinguished winner at the Sundance Film Festival! Though Victor and Thomas have lived their entire young lives in the same tiny town, they couldn’t have less in common! But when Victor is urgently called away, it’s Thomas who comes up with the money to pay for his trip. There’s just one thing Victor has to do: take Thomas along for the ride! You’re in for a rare and entertaining comic treat as this most unlikely pair leave home on what becomes an unexpectedly unforgettable adventure of friendship and discovery!

Smoke Signals Specifications

Based on a couple of short stories (from The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven) by Sherman Alexie, Smoke Signals is a lean and assured feature that speaks well of its lengthy, rich evolution, including a development stint at Sundance. The first feature made by a Native American crew and creative team, the film concerns two young Idaho men with radically different memories of one Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), a former resident of the reservation who split years before and has just died in Phoenix. Arnold’s strapping, popular son, Victor (Adam Beach), remembers him best as an alcoholic, occasionally abusive father who drove off one day and never came back. By contrast, Thomas Builds-the-Fire (Evan Adams), whom Arnold had saved from certain death years earlier, has chosen to exaggerate the man’s life and deeds in a mythmaking fashion that drives Victor crazy. Circumstances bring the two together, however, in a bus ride to retrieve Arnold’s ashes. There, in Phoenix, a confrontation with the reality of the dead man’s fullest legacy has a profound effect on both characters. Alexie, who wrote the script and was personally involved in all aspects of the production, and first-time director Chris Eyre are so polished in their approach that you can barely feel the cinematic engine at work here. This is the kind of movie in which the characters seem to be driving everything forward, a captivating and pleasant experience that gets a little too tidy at the end (can we call a moratorium on scenes of human ashes lovingly disposed to the winds?), but which is undeniably moving. The cast, including Irene Bedard (the voice of and physical inspiration for Disney’s Pocahontas) is outstanding. –Tom Keogh

Good Morning, Vietnam (Special Edition) Review

A surprise and a half. I'm normally not a war for the film, but Robin Williams is one of my favorite actors, and I heard some good things about this movie.

Williams plays Adrian Cronauer, a new disc jockey that will be sent to Vietnam to help, humor, the armed forces stationed there were during the Vietnam War. He is very popular among the soldiers view, but almost immediately as a problem by officials. This opening begins to change funny guy like himExperiences, the horrors of the Vietnam War, up close and personal.

The first part of the film was an excellent opportunity for a stand-up shine Williams. He can do more, as he himself act, like all his other characters have allowed him to. But the film also shows the Vietnam War for what it really was. Although this film is considered a comedy, it still shows that war is a bad thing. Overall, it was an incredible work done by all parties concerned, with the film.
<br/> A must see.

Good Morning, Vietnam (Special Edition) Overview

When the U.S. Army engages irreverent, nonconformist radio deejay Adrian Cronauer, it unleashes a secret, if unpredictable, weapon: laughter. Academy Award(R) winner Robin Williams (Best Supporting Actor, GOOD WILL HUNTING, 1997) shakes up 1965 Saigon in the role that garnered him his very first Oscar(R) nomination. Imported by the military to host an early a.m. radio show, Cronauer (Williams) blasts the formerly serene, sanitized airwaves with a constant barrage of rapid-fire humor and the hottest hits from back home. The G.I.s love him, but the top brass is up in arms. Riddled with sidesplitting comic salvos, bittersweet bombshells, and hot ’60s rock ‘n’ roll, this landmark film chronicles one man’s raucous Saigon adventures amidst a world gone mad. Featuring all-new bonus material that includes hilarious outtakes from Robin Williams’ “raw” monologues, this Special Edition of GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM, scores a direct hit every time you watch.

Good Morning, Vietnam (Special Edition) Specifications

Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog) directed this comedy-drama about an Armed Forces Radio disc jockey (Robin Williams) whose manic, hilarious delivery from a studio in 1965 Saigon gives U.S. troops in the field a morale boost (while upsetting military brass). Based on the real-life experiences of deejay Adrian Cronauer, the film is actually more concept than story: put Williams in front of a microphone and let him go nuts. Still, the surrounding stuff about the influence upon Cronauer of the endless deaths among his listeners–as Cronauer tries to stay funny while feeling the mounting losses–is affecting. Williams got a much-deserved Oscar nomination for his work. DVD release available. –Tom Keogh
